Holiday Overstimulation

I don't know about you, but my kids get overstimulated fairly easily. The day after a big outing or a holiday makes for an awful experience, especially with my older two. With last night being Halloween, today has been awful.

Sierra is also full swing into a PMDD week, which just puts the icing on the cake in this house. She has been yelling and screaming at the adults in the house and just being an emotional mess. She was able to go trick or treating with friends and had a great time. She followed it up with being a wreck today. Once she took her midol she was ok until it wore off.

Yesterday, Andy and DJ's classes had their tradition of a Halloween costume parade in front of the school, then their party afterwards. Richard and I took the younger three trick or treating along our street and connecting cul-de-sacs. It lasted a little over an hour and the boys kept asking if they could go home for the last 20 minutes. Of course they wanted to go to the houses on the way home too. We took the kids to their grandparents afterwards so they could see their fun costumes. So it was a little after their bedtime when we got home.

Andy had an awful day at school today to make up for the fun he had yesterday. I recieved a phone call from the principal this morning. He let me know that Andy and another boy were playing too rough and that Andy pulled the other boy down to the ground by his hoody. When a teacher tried to find out what happened, Andy started hitting, kicking, and throwing mulch at the teacher. He couldn't explain why he reacted that way. When Richard spoke with the teacher this evening they told him that Andy had a total turn around and was fine by the end of the day.

DJ and Gracie seemed to be more tired and struggling with communication today. DJ had a hard time comprehending what was being asked of him, and he also didn't seem to be talking as much. Gracie also had her 15 month shots today, so she was more cranky and sleepy.

The next day overstimulating is sooo tiring, but I also don't want to keep them from some great experiences. How do you handle holiday overload?
